Welcome to Hackforth & Hornby

Church of England

 Primary School

Welcome to our small, village primary school. A church school, we are located in a tranquil setting in beautiful North Yorkshire countryside near Catterick Garrison, Catterick Village, Leeming and Bedale, conveniently close to the A1 Service Road.

One of the first primary schools in the country to be inspected under the revised Ofsted  framework, in October 2019, we were pleased to receive our fourth Good, confirming that our school has been rated as consistently good by Ofsted over an eleven year period.

“Pupils are very happy in school.” (2019). New pupils, including service pupils, "settle quickly, so they are happy, confident and thriving in the warm and welcoming school environment," (2010). The 2019 report highlights our belief that, working happily and confidently “together, everyone achieves more.”

Ofsted confirm the success of our investment in phonics and early reading: effective, early reading is well established. Pupils use phonics confidently to help them read and spell; leaders focus on developing pupils’ reading fluency and understanding across the school.

Our small classes secure an excellent adult to child ratio. Annual participation in the Wensleydale Tournament of Speech and Song, develops pupil confidence through public speaking and performance from an early age. Pupils swim weekly throughout the year and enjoy a wide range of extra-curricular activities, including outdoor learning and adventurous challenge. Our attractive grounds allow us to develop gardening and conservation projects across the curriculum.

A Breakfast Club and daily After School Clubs allow us to offer wrap around care from 8am to 4.30pm.

We do not hold Open Days; preferring parents to see our school and meet staff during routine school days. If you would like to visit, to find out more about our school, please contact the school office on 01748 811698. Our Facebook page and Twitter Feed: @HackforthSchool, give regular insights into daily life at our school.
