Welcome to Hackforth & Hornby

Church of England

 Primary School

Welcome to our small, village primary school. A church school, we are located in a tranquil setting in beautiful North Yorkshire countryside near Catterick Garrison, Catterick Village, Leeming and Bedale, conveniently close to the new A1 network.

Our most recent OFSTED Report (April 2016), confirmed previous Good judgements in 2008 and 2010. The 2010 report commented that new pupils, including service pupils, "settle quickly, so they are happy, confident and thriving in the warm and welcoming school environment."

Pupils are taught in small classes, benefiting from an excellent adult to child ratio. Echoing our OFSTED reports, pupils and parents report that pupils feel happy and secure at our school, enjoying an attractive and stimulating learning environment, which promotes a passion for learning and “enthusiasm for school”:

“A particular strength of the school is the rich and varied curriculum you provide, which promotes pupils’ personal and social development as well as securing good progress in reading, writing and mathematics.” OFSTED, April 2016.

Pupils swim weekly throughout the year; benefit from focused outdoor learning across the school in our outdoor classroom, allotment and conservation areas. We work with external providers to develop outdoor and adventurous activity challenges (NC 2014), including map reading, orienteering and sporting opportunities, including cycling. Pupils receive regular opportunities to perform in challenging school plays, national and local festivals, including Rock Challenge and The Wensleydale Tournament of Speech and Song, developing pupil confidence through public speaking and performance from an early age.

A Breakfast Club and daily after school clubs, enable us to offer wrap around care from 8am to 4.30pm.

If you would like to visit our school to meet pupils and staff, please contact our Office Manager, Mrs Debbie Gibson, to arrange an appointment.  We look forward to meeting you.
