Hackforth & Hornby C of E Primary School

As ever, we are enjoying an extremely busy end of term.

Pupils from Y2 to Y6 are working hard, rehearsing our end of year production, a musical version The Tempest; younger pupils will support older ones in the choir.  Juniors studied the play throughout the second half of the summer term and prepared for the production by rising to the considerable challenge of learning Shakespeare’s original lines, designing a striking backdrop and their production t-shirts.

Success in a Beekeepers’ Association competition resulted in a KS2 trip to The Great Yorkshire Show to receive our prize. Glorious weather helped to make this a memorable day, as we met the beekeepers and visited exhibits focusing on women in World War 1; food production and water safety with the RNLI. We enjoyed watching the show jumping and carriage driving, as well as meeting various assorted livestock, including the calf, Suffragette Stella.

Infants enjoyed their day visiting Big Sheep, Little Cow, in Bedale. They returned full of ideas to prompt some excellent illustrated writing, recording their trip.

We were lucky enough to enjoy more beautiful weather during our Sports’ Afternoon. Thanks are due to our Parent Support Group for the now traditional summer fair and for all their valuable fundraising throughout the year. We said Farewell, earlier in the day, to our leavers. We wish them well as they embark this next phase of their lives and are confident that they will enjoy secondary school and all the challenges that KS3 will bring.

We are now looking forward to the new school year. We enjoyed meeting our new reception pupils during two transition mornings and are looking forward to working with them in September.

We hope pupils enjoy a lovely summer holiday – a reminder that school reopens for another busy term on Tuesday 5th September.
