Hackforth & Hornby C of E Primary School

All our pupils enjoyed celebrating Christmas. On 21st December, parents joined us for a beautiful Christingle Service at St Mary’s and, on the final day of term, pupils performed to a capacity crowd in the village hall. Infants led a memorable production of “Angel Small,” ably supported by our experienced juniors. We were joined for the performance by Gill McLean and Ian Smith from Monkey Island Publishing.  Gill illustrated the “Angel Small” titles which inspired the play and Ian is the company’s commercial director. In thanking pupils for their excellent performance, Ian commented, “That was the best performance I have seen to date, and the staff and the children should be roundly congratulated.”

School trips to “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds (juniors) and an infant trip to meet Father Christmas at Thorpe Perrow were enjoyed by pupils and staff.  Juniors wrote reviews for homework and all agreed that they were lucky to see a five star performance with amazing special effects.

We are now looking forward to 2018. An already busy calendar will include workshops with the “Angel Small” author and illustrator and, in the months before the 11th November, we will be working with the Green Howards Museum and other local schools to commemorate the end of World War 1.

Pupils and staff join me in wishing you a very happy and successful 2018.
