Hackforth & Hornby C of E Primary School

Pupils returned refreshed, ready for a busy autumn term.

Working with Hackforth Village Hall, we enjoyed a successful Villages Show. Georgina Campbell’s beautiful artwork on the theme of nature won the school’s Queen Elizabeth 11 Golden Jubilee Art Shield. As ever, the quality of the artwork across the school was of a very high standard, making our judge’s job extremely difficult. The high standard of Katrina Dunn’s entries across the general children’s sections, secured her the prize for overall children’s winner. Well done to Georgina and Katrina and all our prize winners across the school’s art and handwriting competitions, and the other children’s classes.

Congratulations to our newly elected School Council; Eco Council and Playground Leaders. We are looking forward to working with you to develop school across a range of areas, particularly our beautiful garden and outdoor learning areas.

Looking ahead, we will be taking part in a variety of experiences to complement our curriculum. The juniors will be working with an architect from Ripon to take part in a National Trust challenge to design a folly for Fountains Abbey; the whole school will be visiting the Cleveland Iron Stone Mining Museum to support our Saxon and fossil investigations and the juniors are looking forward to extending our links with Richmond Pool through a First Aid course, led by their community outreach officer. We will also be working with the War Memorials’ Trust to develop our local awareness of Remembrance. Our Year 2 pupils will be joining Mini Explorers for an afternoon of outdoor and eco activities.

A very warm welcome to Rev Chris Lawton. We would like to thank him for his support with the children’s aspect of the show. We are looking forward to working with him, to strengthen our already established and rewarding links with St Mary’s Church, further.

We will be holding Open Afternoons in school on Friday 29th September from 3pm and Friday 20th October from 2.30pm. If you can, please join us to talk to staff and pupils about our school. If not, please look out for coverage of our varied activities on our website and on Facebook.
